The Road is based on Cormut McCarthy's novel that won a Pulitzer called The Road, as well as No Country for Old Men, so you know it's not exactly going to be cheerful or going to be turned into a musical any time soon. It stars Viggo Mortensen as the male lead, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as his son, and it's a post-apocalyptic world with occasional cameos by Charlize Theron and Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce. Not a cheery story, certainly not one to take your kids to. But, fascinating and meaningful and haunting. And the performances are terrific. So, for performances, I'd probably give it five. For enjoyment, probably a two because it's just so difficult. But overall, I think it deserves four stars.
